If the Medicare program changes the functional assessment items that are required to be collected in inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and units, the National Spinal Cord Injury Model System (SCIMS) data set will need to be updated. This project will help prepare the SCI Model System centers and the statistical center for the transition to the new functional assessment items. The SCI Model System data set is a key component of the Model System activities. The development of a crosswalk between the FIM items and new functional assessment items would allow researchers to continue to conduct longitudinal studies using the SCI Model System data set.
