Inpatient

After a spinal cord injury (SCI), Inpatient Occupational Therapy focuses treatment on the goal of returning to independence. Treatment sessions are customized to the individual patient. Throughout the spinal cord injury rehabilitation program, treatment is provided to improve skills that are the foundation of function, as well as activities of daily living (ADL). Treatment sessions include training in self feeding, strength, coordination, balance, dressing, etc. All these treatments help patients achieve functional independence, return to daily life routines, and a high quality of life.

Outpatient

In the Outpatient Spinal Cord Injury Clinic, occupational therapists provide a number of services, the primary being part of an interdisciplinary team in providing re-evaluations to both local and non-local patients with SCI, including those who are new to the Craig system. Depending on the patient, re-evaluations include functional abilities, posture and positioning, arm and hand issues, and motor and sensory changes. At the end of the re-evaluation, recommendations are made which can then be followed up in conjunction with patients’ local therapists and support systems. Upgrades programs for more extensive therapy needs are available for those who qualify.
